Begin with your site
For an interior, document the room, wall or floor space and the route from delivery vehicle to final position. For an outdoor piece, describe the specific site and ask the artist to explain the proposed material, finish, drainage and maintenance considerations.
Art within a working civic building
Clayton Binkley’s Between the Ocean and the Sky at Bellingham’s Pacific Street Operations Center shows how a public building can accommodate a permanent commission. The city’s account records the funding route and completion, giving useful context for clients planning an architectural project.

Build a useful brief
Include architects, facilities staff and installers early where the project requires them. Agree mounting or suspension details, lighting and cleaning access alongside the creative proposal. Smaller paintings and objects can begin with a simpler room brief.
Choose the category that fits
Portraits and paintings, sculpture and murals each need a different making and delivery plan. We can explore US and international artists, with location and installation requirements considered before a quote is agreed.
These guides offer planning ideas and documented examples. We do not claim a local office or a confirmed artist roster in every state.
