US COMMISSION STORIES

Loqui

Community language becomes part of a sculpture’s illuminated surface.

Nashville, Tennessee · Blessing Hancock

Independent editorial coverage. These are projects by the credited artists and organisations, not commissionit projects. Featuring an artist does not imply representation, partnership or current availability.

The commission

Blessing Hancock’s account dates Loqui to 2024 at The Fairgrounds Nashville. Commissioned by the City of Nashville, it uses stainless steel, polycarbonate and programmable lighting. Words gathered from the local community form part of the surface.

What this suggests for your brief

Participation works best when it is designed into the process. Decide whose voices should be included, how contributions will be gathered and who approves the final selection. For a workplace or community project, budget time for that engagement alongside the making.

Start with what interests you

Tell us whether it is the material, scale, light, interaction or connection to place. We can explore an original proposal for your own setting and enquire about a named artist where appropriate. Any artist involvement must be confirmed before a project is offered.
